The No. 22 University of Utah lacrosse team will take on No. 5 Simon Fraser Saturday at the Spence Eccles Field House in Salt Lake City.
The last time these two teams met was in 2006 and Utah walked away with a 14-8 win over the Clan. Three players on the 2009 squad scored in that game. Attackmen Matt Qualey had one goal and two assists while Jon Owens and Ryan Watts each had one goal.
Simon Fraser has played three games this season and remains undefeated after beating Boise State 18-1, Washington State 28-2, and Idaho 15-5. Simon Fraser will face No. 3 BYU on Friday in Provo, Utah before taking on the Utes on Saturday.
This will be the first game of the 2009 campaign for Utah and will prove to be a tough test for first year head coach Craig Morris.
“They are certainly a very good lacrosse team,” said Utah head coach Craig Morris, talking about Simon Fraser. “From all accounts, they are a very potent offensive group, have great sticks, shoot the ball well, are great in transition and are very physical.”
Coach Morris said this will be a great challenge for Utah early in the season to see where they are and how they have progressed.
