The University of Utah men’s lacrosse team will head into this weekend with hopes of beating Wyoming and Northern Arizona.
Utah (0-1) should have three games under their belts, but the termination of ASU made it hard to justify a one-game trip to play Arizona last weekend and canceled their trip.
Utah will face Wyoming on Friday night at the Spence Eccles Field House in Salt Lake City.
“I don’t really know what to expect from them since,” Utah head coach Craig Morris said. “Since it’s all speculation at this point and they haven’t played yet this year, we just need to get ready to play and see what they bring to the table.”
Wyoming (0-0) was recently promoted to Division 1 along with Utah State to which now gives the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference an automatic bid to the MCLA Championships.
Utah will then face Northern Arizona (3-0) on Sunday at Dumke Field in Salt Lake City.
“NAU seems to be off to a very good start to the season,” Morris said. “I will try to get a look at the game on Saturday when NAU plays Westminster and hope that we can learn a little more that we can use on Sunday.”
Northern Arizona, who competes in Division 2, has played well in their first three games and will surely be in for a challenge facing Utah, who is the only Division 1 team Northern Arizona will play this season.
“My guess is that if we come out and play hard and don’t get caught looking ahead to a big trip next week we will be just fine,” Morris said.

Why do the utes play on two different fields?
The Utes have had problems getting a true home field starting last year. The school doesn’t provide any adequate field for lacrosse because they don’t care. The Utes used to play at Judge Memorial, but their brand new turf field collapsed last year so Utah went to Juan Diego which is closer to BYU than Utah. The game tonight will be at the Field House because it is too cold to play a night game anywhere else. They are going to play at Dumke Field (Home field for Westminster) probably because NAU plays Westminster at Dumke Field on Saturday and then Utah on Sunday.
