scripture_appReview: Scriptures

I have always been interested in having scriptures on a handheld device, but I have found it just isn’t the same as reading the real thing – turning the pages, writing in the margins, etc. I just don’t feel like I can be as effective if I am reading it on a handheld device. However, all the young men that I teach love to have the scriptures on their iPhone or iPod because then they can say they are looking at them, but we all know they are playing games.

Features
This is a decent app that features The Old Testament, The New Testament, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price.

You can navigate by tapping the book you want to read, and then drilling down from there, or you can use the “scripture navigator” that acts almost like a slot machine where on the left side you have the book (New Testament), sub-book (Luke) and then the chapter.

There is a “scripture guides” feature where you can enter a topic and it will search the scriptures for every instance of that word. It works pretty well and could be used to easily find topics.

Rating
3 of 5 – Decent app, but you are better off with LDS Library

    Good article.

    Try

    http://www.readthescriptures.com

for a good website that e-mail verse daily based on a goal to finish a certain book in the standard works.

    Great service!

Hey John – Very interesting site. I had actually thought about building a similar site but never got around to it. For some reason though when it comes to anything scriptural I like to have a paper copy, i.e. a paper reading chart. I don’t know why though. Thanks for reading….
