How Soccer Explains The World
Franklin Foer; Harper Perennial 2005
This is an awesome book for all you soccer fans out there. I haven’t read any other soccer books, and your recommendations would be appreciated. I knew soccer had “hooligans,” but I didn’t realize some of the crazy stuff that goes on in the soccer world. I guess it is comparable to referee scandals in the NBA, steroids in MLB and what not, but it was pretty eye opening.
Foer starts the book off by talking about Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. Starting with their crazy, yet dedicated fans and corrupt owners and managers. He then goes on to talk about Rangers and Celtic in Scotland which are tied to religions which has similarities to the whole BYU-Utah rivalry.
This is definitely a good read, whether you like soccer or not.
