Utah faces UVU, No. 7 CSU this week

The Utah men’s lacrosse team will take on in-state foe Utah Valley University and conference rival Colorado State this week.

Utah (3-2, 1-0) are coming off a 7-6 loss to No. 11 Lindenwood and a 14-6 win over Indiana and will hope to carry their momentum to this week.

Utah will face UVU (1-0) on Thursday at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. UVU is ranked No. 11 in the latest Prodigy Division II Poll and the last time these two teams met was in the 2007 season. Utah came away with a 17-9 win over the Wolverines. Junior attackmen Pat Guinn had three goals and one assist in that game as a freshman. Guinn will once again hope to have a good game against the Wolverines.

Utah will then play No. 7 Colorado State (7-1) on Sunday at Juan Diego High School in Draper, Utah. Last season, Utah managed to pull of the upset against CSU at Fort Collins who were ranked No. 4 at the time. The Utes won in dramatic fashion by the score of 11-10 in the fifth period of overtime. Junior midfielder Mike Calvert, then a sophomore, scored the game winning goal in a game that will stand near the top in Utah lacrosse history.

Colorado State, currently on a five games in seven days road trip, will face No. 3 Chapman on Wednesday, No 4. BYU on Friday and then end their road trip on Sunday at Utah.
